KEVIN OMALLEY 361 - a recovering photorealist

I started to draw the same time I started taking photographs - around age ten. Later, during college and grad school, I was apprenticed at various times to Duane Hansen, Lowell Nesbitt, Idelle Weber and Tom Blackwell. I haven't picked up a paintbrush (other than those gray foam ones from Home Depot...) for thirty years. Hence the title: a recovering photorealist.

I will say that the processes I use in both my photographic projects and writing lean heavily on the training I received as a photo-realist - in that, every square inch of each painting was indelibly connected to every other part of the canvas. Story, character, dialogue, setting - it's all part of the "picture plane."
